E komo mai! (Welcome!)
I'm going to Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge!!...which is part of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, located about 1200 miles northwest of Honolulu, Hawai`i. From its name you can understand that it's in about the middle of the North Pacific Ocean! I'll be working as a volunteer there for about 3 months, doing all kinds of wildlife management work. My friends and I are going to author this blog about Midway together. Let's introduce ourselves.

Hi!
I'm Auntie Moana Laal, and perhaps I should explain that my last name, Laal, stand for Laysan Albatross, which is what I am. I really like the idea of having this blog; I'd really like to let LOTS of people know what a special home I have here on Midway.
Good evening.
I'm rather an experienced observer of wildlife here on my home of Midway, so I'm looking forward very much to contributing to this blog. My name is Edward Bfal (pronounced "Biffle,") and I'm a Black-footed Albatross.
Aloha kakou!
I'm part of the Laysan Duck community here on Midway. In 2004 about 2 dozen of us were moved from Laysan Atoll to Midway by the US Fish & Wildlife Service. In the ancient past, we LADU were fairly widespread on all the islands in Hawai`i Nei, but various problems reduced us to a a small population just on Laysan. Now that we're living on both atolls, we're that much more protected against extinction. You'll notice that my photo shows me and my ducklings from last year; we're happy on Midway!
Howzit. I guess I'm da only fish in dis blog. I'll speak for ocean da kine.
This is a very cool atool, yeah! Looking forward to the summer adventures of these characters...
